Summer Break 2021- Resources for Families

Below are a range of resources for families over summer break. 

Programs and Activities

MPS Summer Programs provide students with tons of free and low-cost options this summer to keep their minds and bodies active. 

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board offers free or low-cost summer camps for kids as well as employment opportunities for teens.

YWCA of Minneapolis offers summer day camps for student in grades k-5; scholarships are available.

YMCA of the North offers summer day camps for youth ages 4-14, teen wilderness camps, and family activities; scholarships are available.

Hennepin County Library offers free summer learning activities for youth and families.

Food

MPS Culinary & Wellness Services has free food boxes for all youth, all summer long!.Food boxes are available for pick-up at eight sites across Minneapolis, Monday-Friday. Most sites are be open 10am-3pm, and a few will have extended hours of 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Food boxes are free for ALL youth (18 & under) and contain 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches. Home delivery of food boxes is available for qualifying families. Daily summer meals are being served at MPS summer programs and various community sites.  For more information about free summer meals for youth, please visit our website.

Other Resources

MPS Family Resource Center can help you apply for medial assistance and health insurance; access medical, dental and mental health services; and connect to other community resources to support your family. Call 612.668.4280 or email frc@mpls.k12.mn.us.

United Way 211 provides free and confidential health and human services information for people in Minnesota. Assistance is available in all languages. Phones are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. United Way 211 can connect families with resources and information, including food and clothes. Call 211 or 651.291.0211.
