Three Design Models Proposed

Three Design Models Proposed

Three design models have been proposed as part of the Comprehensive District Design. These proposed pathways are designed to create structure to support academic achievement and sustainability goals, establish zone, region, and district-wide learning options with clear K – 12 pathways for academic programming, while responding to families’ needs for safety, quality, predictability, and equity.

Model 1 - Current Design

  • Keeps current three-zone model
  • Looks for efficiencies in transportation by adjusting bell times and individual school attendance boundaries
  • Makes modifications to special education programming model
  • Focuses primarily on academic programming

Challenges:

  • Has not proven financially sustainable
  • Breadth of busing options inadvertently maintains racially isolated schools
  • Diverts resources from academic programming

Model 2 - Two Region Design

Click map to expand

  • Transportation and programming models with northwest and northeast pairings; southeast and southwest pairings
  • Changes in region 2 to grade configuration; more consistent with region 1
  • Currently modeling for integration impact and transportation savings

Model 3 - Four-Zone Design

Click map to expand

  • Retains many of the pathways and magnets contained in two region model
  • More limited transportation boundaries
  • Some regional magnets become zone magnets
  • Currently modeling for integration impact and transportation savings
